T-Mobile brings HTC Viva to Germany has T-Mobile MDA Basic

T-Mobile isn’t exactly known for their sensible handset model names. The Deutsch Telekom-owned wireless carrier traditionally re-brands HTC smartphones with obscure, yet catchy, model names that don’t exactly convey the handet’s capabilities. The new T-Mobile MDA Basic, on the other hand, proclaims to the world that it’s a bare-bones touchscreen smartphone.

HTC’s latest entry-level touchscreen smartphone, the HTC Viva, has undergone the T-Mobile-treatment and will be available as the lower-end T-Mobile MDA Basic. But, don’t let the model name trick you into thinking that the MDA Basic is a lesser smartphone – the MDA Basic’s 2 megapixel camera, GPS, WiFi, GPRS/EDGE, and TouchFLO 2D (powered by Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional) UI rivals spec-sheets from stat-of-the-art smartphones from just a couple years ago.

And, with a €4.95 ($6.50) price-tag (when purchased with new two-year contract), the T-Mobile MDA Basic is almost as good as free. Just check your couch for the necessary funds.

We’re looking for the T-Mobile MDA Basic to hit the German carrier’s network in early February.
