Steven Horowitz, one of the top (and original) software engineers for the Android OS has left the team at Google. He’s moving on to work for the folks at Coupons Inc., where he will work on software creation, distribution and tracking of coupons. Horowitz was on the Android team at Google since 2006.

For Horowitz, the timing was right to make the move. He pumped much time, energy and soul into Android, and now that the OS is off and running, he felt good about the move. When asked where Android is currently at, Horowitz noted it is β€œat the beginning of transforming the mobile industry.” Grand words!

Horowitz also confirmed that he knows of many companies looking to port Android to all kinds of different devices. Netbooks, GPS units and more. It’s going to be a great 2009 for Android.
