A tasty next-gen iPhone rumor for us this morning. Word has it that a Taiwanese industry report has leaked details of a 3.2 Megapixel camera coming to the next-gen iPhone. Apparently, OmniVision has received orders from Apple for 3.2MP CMOS sensors. OmniVision was apparently in competition with Aptina and STMicroelectronics for the contract. In addition to the 3.2MP sensors, OmniVision has also secured a deal to make 5MP sensors for Apple as well. Hmmmm, now isn’t that interesting!?

Too early to tell what’s really going on over here… As with most rumors that I come across, I’ll believe it when I see it. Should be an interesting summer for Apple for sure. Can’t wait to get my hands on a next-gen iPhone.

Its quite disappointing. When these days all mobile manufacturers are releasing 8MP camera phones apple is releasing outdated 3.2 MP Camera phone.

I read that the new cameras will ship with built in high power LED flash lights, is this accurate?

Consumers that complain about ‘not enough mega pixels’ are the reason why we have 10 megapixel consumers products that take worse photos than a 3 megapixel camera of 5 years ago. If we are lucky apple is ignoring those people and releasing a 3.2 megapixel with a much better sensor/lens that performs in most situations (low light) producing sharp natural images without noise, give it a zeon flash and I will pay the big bucks without flinching.

apple have a history of going for quality before quantity, hopefully they leave the pixel pushing to nokia n sony suckers and carve their own path to the functional products we know they have the ability to make :)

People commenting here do not understand that apple is taking time to release higher megapixels cameras because the current technology for them will make the phone very bulky. Apple want to keep the phone slimmer. As the technology of the chip develops, cameras will become smaller and gradually iphone will get a 5 megapix or 6 megapix which is more than sufficient for an A4 printout…
