stanford-mophoThe iPhone has become more than just a phone. And, thanks to a wide range of iPhone applications that help transform the iPhone from phone into mobile gaming console to musical instrument, the iPhone is being used in innovative ways that Steve Jobs likely never envisioned. Take these MoPhos for example. The Stanford Mobile Phone Orchestra, hilariously referred to as the MoPho, uses a fleet of iPhones to do their musical bidding.

With custom musical applications in tow, these MoPhos make some eerily calming music under the direction of Stanford Assistant Professor Ge Wang. The MoPho ensemble makes use of the iPhone’s multi-touch display and accelerometers to generate musical tones that are amplified by speakers attached to each MoPho’s wrist. The result? A geeky-cool musical group with a rockin’ band-name!
