Amazon.com acquires Lexcycle

In an effort to strengthen its position in the ebook market, Amazon.com acquired Lexcycle, the company behind the popular iPhone ebook application Stanza.

Those not familiar should know Stanza is probably the single most used ebook reading app on the iPhone and iPod Touch, allowing users to download more than 100,000 books and periodicals to their shiny devices. The application is available as a free download through the AppStore.

Lexcycle was founded in early 2008 and has offices in both Austin, Texas and Portland, Oregon. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed…
