star-droid-appAny amateur astronomers out there? If there are, you may want to pick up a G1 or next-gen Android device in the near future… as I’m sure this will appeal to you.

Turns out that Google is ramping up to launch a new app called ‘Star Droid’. The app will help you find stars and planets using GPS technology. The app would determine your current location, the current angle/direction of your device using the built-in accelerometer, and deliver a corresponding planet/star map on-screen for reference. Star and planet names will be visible to help the user identify what they’re seeing in the night sky. The combination of GPS and accelerometer data will reveal a very precise star map. Kinda cool if you ask me. Should be good.

Stay tuned for more on the Star Droid app as info becomes available.
