T-Mobile 3G Network Expansion: List of U.S. Cities Going 3G in 2009

Earlier today my bud David over at TMoNews scored some details regarding T-Mobile’s expansion of their 3G network. The details had 3G speeds hitting Rockford IL on May 15th, Springfield IL on May 19th, Henderson NV on May 21st, and Wichita Falls TX on May 22. With some of these dates already passing us, many T-Mobile subscribers in Rockford and Springfield should be noticing the change. However, as we’re well aware T-Mobile is planning to expand its 3G network to cover approximately 200 million people across the US. That’s a big expansion… To that end, a large list of 3G launch dates in various cities across the US has been found. Make the jump for the complete list of cities going 3G on T-Mo, organized by quarter.

I hate to tell you this, but Des Moines isn’t in Idaho.

  • Scott

Yeah, I just noticed that, too. I think it will still be a while before 3G makes it to Idaho.

  • Alberto

Why T-Mobile didn’t put Puerto Rico on their list. Curently AT&T and CLARO PR are the only cellphone companies providing 3g coverage in Puerto Rico.

    • gretschpr

Sprint in P.R. has 3G coverage too…(i’m with them) and if by “3G” you mean “broadband like speeds” then you should add Centennial too (i personally tried it)…right now there only 2 carriers in PR that doesn’t offer 3G speeds and those are T-Mobile and Open Mobile…just my 2 cents…Take care BORICUAAAAAAAAASSSSSS!!!!!

      • Carlos

sprint is not 3g!! they use CDMA on PR not gsm!!

        • sirtekalot

Your a dumb ass. CDMA is also on their 3rd Generation Network. GSM isn't the only technology on 3G. Further GSM 3G uses WCDMA.

  • Jonathan

Seriously, Puerto Rico should be on the list the island is so small that it would only take two 3G towers to cover all the most populated regions , and although the island is small, there are enough t-mobile subscribers to use the 3G frequently, considering the fact that Puerto Rico is more populated than China, population density wise anyway. Oh well T-mobile still rules anyway 🙂

  • Jay

All I got to say is that Indianapolis aka Naptown is now under T-mobile 3G blanket woke up this morning to a big 3G display from my LX on 09/09/09.

    Thanks T-mobile

  • Steve biller

    I have a t-mobile my touch 3g and there is no 3g

  • michael gonzalez

I live in riverside, ca and I have no “3G” I just have “G” >=/

  • WilliamSerrano

I’m sorry, why do people still go for T-Mobile. Even after all this expansion, a very large percentage of their network still only operates in EDGE or GPRS. One guy up there says he bought a MyTouch3G, and lives in an area where there’s no 3G. They may have had the first Android device, they may have excellent customer service, and fairly competitive prices, but man… they’re seriously behind. VZW, AT&T and S/N are already talking about LTE and WiMax (4G), respectively. I mean, c’mon… All this time and major metro-areas like ElPaso, Nashville, Cincinatti, Cleveland, Charleston, Albuquerque have been only on EDGE and GPRS? I’d take crappy customer service and boring phones to be with Sprint with EVDO pretty much everywhere. They have so much EVDO, I have some lying around somewhere in my apartment.

    • sirtekalot

T-Mo will be using HSPDA and HSPA+ with speeds matching LTE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-Speed_Downlink_Packet_Access). It is pretty much a required step for them to make the LTE leap. I think they are smart as they will allow other networks to do all the hard work before jumping into the pool. I however agree with you I would prefer to have the EVDO network with consistent speeds across the network than with wondering if I'll have to mess with EDGE.

  • Jim

September 30th and no 3g! I’m not a very happy person. Topeka, KS was supposed to get 3g this quarter. What’s the hold up?

Looks like I’ll be looking at ATT, Verizon or Sprint when my contract is up. At least they can provide 3g where I live.

  • Bonnie

I’m noticing 3G this morning, couldn’t figure it out and did a search. I am 55 miles from Rochester, MN. Am I getting their 3G?

    • sirtekalot

No your in their market; they most likely expanded out your way with tower upgrades.

  • David

I have a MyTouch3G in Cincinnati, but all my friends make fun of it calling it the MyTouchEDGE. It’s December 7th today, and still no 3G in Cincy. So much for 3rd quarter expansion! T-Mobile, you’ve got roughly 24 days before 2010, so get 3G or that “2009 3G Expansion” would just be a paper bag of flaming crap on my doorstep. Get with the program!

  • teddy

Cincinnati has 3G now!!! Not in all places though.

  • xcoredriver

I live in Northwest Arkansas and have had T-Mobile for a year or so now. The other day I noticed I finally have 3G coverage (have been waiting FOREVER!) – Tmobile.com doesn’t have our area marked as a 3G area, but I have it. I looked on the expansion plan and Little Rock is on there, but I live no where near Little Rock. Anyone else notice 3G status on their phones?

    • SpencerC

I live in the Bentonville, AR area. Im thinking of getting a Nexus One thru t=mobile. Are u still getting a good 3G signal? If so, how does it perform?

    • sirtekalot

As of last check still nothing in Washington Co. Just Benton Co. Has to be Wal-Mart. 🙂

  • andy

Tmobile in P,R is crap they only offer nice looking cells but the service is really bad internet is worst,3g phones with no 3g, $30.00 for super slow internet , c’mon, ATT rules , Sprint has even 4g,why stay with Tcrappy

  • Marvin

It’s April 2010 and would like to see a 2010 release list. Also, Greenville NC is still waiting for 3G!!!!

  • Edgar

Tmobile in PR is fair, the custumer service is excellent, the internet is slow, I have a Blackberry Bold 9700 that I think I’m not taking full advantage of the phone because of the EDGE network of Tmobile. Tmobile PR what are you waiting for to switch to 3G in Puerto Rico?? I’m tired of waiting so hurry up!!!

  • david

I agree with Edgar, T-Mobile in P.R. is fair. Unlimited Calls, text, internet (not limited) like the new Iphone plan on AT&T, free roaming and long distance calls with a verry low rate. The best Customer service in PR and some of the most selling phones on the market right now. The only thing it's holding people back to switch to T-Mobile is the 3G. I have an HTC HD2, super fast phone with a super slow network. Is like having a race car with no track to run it. WE NEED 3G PLEASEEEEEEE!

  • jorge garcia

T-mobile in pr nice price but edge sucks.
Att claro sprint centennial are fastcompare to tmobile data

  • mike

Yeah now Puerto Rico have now tmobile 3G.

i just buy HTC HD2 in tmobile Puerto Rico whit call, roaming & internet and i was say tmobile sucks beacause not have 3G and i think my phone sucks beacause not have 3G. Then when i go Las Piedras to Caguas then i see 3G i was really HAPPY and all away Hato Rey to Bayamon the 3G still there.

verry impress beacause i was thinkin that tmobile Puerto Rico not have 3G.
Tmobile is a great even when i live areas likes mountain and tall trees the signal is better i never found problem signal or others with Tmobile is a great service.

  • Tmaclbg
