Sony Ericsson to launch its own app store powered by GetJar

Sony Ericsson PlayNow ArenaSony Ericsson is joining the app store wave. Following the announcement that PlayNow Arena will offer mobile movie downloads, the company also announced the apps are coming as well.

For the purpose, the Swedish-Japanese handset maker partnered with the mobile application store GetJar, which will handle all the hassle in the back-end for the upcoming store. Applications will be offered in 13 countries that currently support PlayNow arena, and the service platform will be compatible with 38 Sony Ericsson phone models. More markets and phones will be added in the future.

As for the launch date – we don’t have it. We do, however, know when the application submission process begins. It’s July 1st, when interested developers and publishers will be able to submit their Java ME and Symbian OS-based apps. Later in the year, Sony Ericsson will include support for other platforms…
