While the rest of the world turns their attention to Apple and their just-released iPhone OS 3.0 and upcoming iPhone 3G S launch, it looks like Samsung’s been busy showing off their Earth-friendly Samsung Blue Earth handset. CNET got a chance to put hands on the Samsung Blue Earth at the CommunicAsia conference in Singapore, and they’ve posted a short video highlighting the Blue Earth’s eco-features.

The Samsung Blue Earth’s stand-out feature is the solar panel that adorns its backside. The handset housing is made from recyclable plastics, owing to its eco-friendly roots. The reviewer on the video can be hard to understand, so here’s the breakdown:

  • 1 hour of solar charging gets you 10 minutes of talk or 2 days of standby
  • Touchscreen
  • Solar panel
  • Front and rear facing cameras
  • Eco-walk – essentially a pedometer that calculates how far you’ve walked and determines how much carbon you are saving by not driving

We’re told the Samsung Blue Earth might hit streets later this year. Mother Earth should be proud.

Head on over to CNET for the full hands-on video.
