I needed to leave early to prepare all the posts for publishing. Here’s what I’ve missed:
“The Business Case for Targeting Unbanked Markets – Mobile Payments in a Time of War” by Miyanda Mulambo, General Manager, Celpay. Miyanda talked about Democratic Republic of Congo’s unique challenges for financial service provisions and how these have been addressed by mobile services with lessons learnt from other regions.
“The Business Case for Targeting Unbanked Markets – Levaraging existing infrastructure and behavior for branchless banking” by Abhishek Sinha, Co-founder and CEO, Eko. This presentation was about non-bank financial institutions and the impact they can have on access to financial services, as well as the economics and revenue opportunities at the bottom end of the pyramid.
Then came the panel — “The Reality of Delivering Mobile Money in Developing Markets” — with the following participants:
- Jojo Malolos, Group Head Financial Services, Smart
- Zahir Khoja, Director, Product Marketing and Head of Mobile Commerce, Roshan
- Rizza Maniego-Eala, President, G-Xchange, Globe Telecom
- Brian Richardson, CEO, Wizzit
- Roberto Rittes, Director, Oi Paggo
They’ve discussed key challenges faced in a variety of regions, looking at the current ecosystem, how it has evolved and what developments are expected over the next 12-18 months…
And that’s it for Tuesday, June 23rd. Next comes the wrap-up posts and I’m done for today.
