I just had to grab a jacket because it got cold all of a sudden in the layer of hell that I currently call home. Nokia USA has created a video that actually advocates bypassing your operator, buying an unlocked devices, and just swapping your current SIM card inside your new mobile. I’ve been wanting to see a video like this since I started writing my personal blog, Ring Nokia, back in 2006. Now that it has finally happened, I’m a bit speechless. It’s magical, it’s surreal, I want to see this being blasted on televisions, put in the center of NokiaUSA.com and read every single USA based technology journalist ranting about the positives and negatives when it comes to owning an unlocked device. The one company that could have pushed this unlocked mentality, and made the American mobile market a little bit more like Europe and Asia, was Apple. We all saw how royally they fucked that one up, making a device locked to an operator that everyone hates. You want to know why Nokia has so much trouble getting their devices into the North American market? Videos like this that basically say: “Your operator is a pipe. Pay them for service, buy the device from us, be happy.”
