Pyramid Research

The global mobile gaming market will grow at 16% CAGR to reach $18 billion in 2014. According to Pyramid Research’s latest report titled “Mobile Gaming in Emerging Markets: Five Year Forecast and Impact Analysis,” it’s the mobile users in emerging markets that will be the main engine of this growth.

Manager of mobile content at Pyramid Research and coauthor of the report, Jan ten Sythoff, says that the mobile gaming is a promising industry to which we say “well, daaaa.” ;)

Unlike us, he does have some numbers to put behind the claim: “Global mobile gaming revenue reached $6.9 billion in 2008, having grown strongly in recent years, with emerging markets contributing heavily.” The growth, according to Jan, will not only come from emerging markets, but from increased usage in developed markets, as well.

He went on to say: “Declining handset and data access prices have been central to the increased use of data services in emerging economies; also, because devices such as PCs and gaming consoles are less common, the mobile phone has become the primary device for accessing content such as Websites and games. This, combined with improving economic conditions, is resulting in increased adoption of mobile content and data services.”

More information about the report is available from Pyramid Research’s website.
