Want to listen in on a fake hotel lobby? Of course there’s an app for that.

If you’re like us, you’ve probably tired of the free fart machine and tip calculator apps on the iPhone AppStore. Or not, if fake flatulence are your sort of thing. Either way, it’s good to see a free iPhone app going more for the artsy-fartsy crowd than the, well, fartsy crowd. The 24 Hours: The Starck Mix iPhone app has just launched on the AppStore, offering a simulated soundtrack of a make-believe hotel lobby. The app is meant to be an audio tribute to French designer Philippe Starck, known for his upscale boutique hotel lobbies.

The Starck Mix features a 24-hour audio stream comprised of ambient music, sounds and voices. The app displays the local time as its main visual attraction, and it uses the current time to cue up the corresponding position in the soundtrack. If you start listening at noon, you’ll start listening to the soundtrack at 12:00. The 24 Hours: The Starck Mix is more abstract than we’re used to seeing in an iPhone app, but the concept is cool.

It’s not for everyone, but seeing as how it’s free, there’s no harm in trying it out. But, act quick, The 24 Hours: The Starck Mix will only be available for 30 days.
