Tough times up north on the Canadian mobile scene. At least, according to recent job cuts making the rounds. Last week ‘big red’ Rogers announced a slashing of 900 jobs… and now, TELUS has announced 125 job cuts from business solutions division… I should note these cuts are at management level only.

Shawn Hall, a media relations rep for TELUS noted:

“With the recession other businesses are experiencing layoffs, some businesses are shutting down, and there are fewer phone customers. The telecommunications industry is hotly competitive at the moment and is rapidly changing. The challenges are continuing and we’ll continue to adapt to them.”

I can only hope the cuts glean the results TELUS is looking for… and they can re-hire ASAP. I’ve been more than pleased with TELUS over the last quarter of 2009… This is a bit of sad news to add to the plate… But I’m hoping for rosy things in early 2010.

For those that may get the boot, the future may not be so friendly… But let’s hope all turns out for the best in the year ahead.
