After obtaining the country’s first 3G license, Azerbaijan’s Azerfon has launched its HSPA network in the cities of Baku, Sumgait, Ganja, Shirvan, Nakhchivan, Mingachevir, Tovuz and Shamkir, as well as in the Absheron Peninsula.
The company has reportedly invested $20 million in the network rollout so far, and with the plans to expand in other areas, it will definitely spend more in the months to come. For its 3G network, Azerfon has partnered with Vodafone, which brand they use to promote 3G services.
According to Wireless Intelligence, with 455,000 subscribers and an 8% market share, Azerfon is the country’s third-largest mobile operator. Azerbaijan has a mobile penetration rate of only 69%, meaning there’s still potential for growth.
