There’s a new telecom operator in Zimbabwe called Broadlands Networks which is investing $100 million in a new network. The technology platform is not specified, but it is presumed to be WiMAX.
So far Broadlands has invested around $30 million to build its network in Harare, Bulawayo and Gweru, and the nationwide coverage is expected by the middle of this year. Additionally, the company has also invested in its own fibre base network for backhauling traffic. The goal is to build a capacity for 10 million subscribers when fully completed.
And for the record, Broadlands Networks started in South Africa and has since expanded to Botswana, Namibia, Malawi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia and Gabon.
