I know it’s not hip to say, but I dig Target. They have lots of quality stuff for cheap prices. I’m starting to like them even more because it has just announced a neat mobile coupon program.
You can sign up for the opt-in program by texting “COUPONS” to 827438, or sign up via the company’s website on a desktop or mobile. You’re then sent a text message with a link to multiple discounts. The cool thing is that these mobile coupons will be scannable, so you can just bust out your phone at the cash register. It’ll work on all the major carriers and it looks like you’ll need mobile web capabilities. There’s no word yet on who’s providing the service or any geolocation features, but I’m checking it out and should have more soon.
“At Target, we know that mobile phones are an integral part of our guests’ lives, and mobile coupons are just another way we’re providing convenient, on-the-go shopping solutions,” said Steve Eastman, president of Target.com, in a prepared statement.
Even if you don’t care about Target, a major company implementing this type of program is a good sign for the mobile coupon market. A recent report from Juniper Research suggests there will be over 100 million mobile coupon users by the end of the year and this move should help contribute to that.
