
Everyone is about apps these days, so why would the First Lady be any different. As part of her “Let’s Move!” campaign to end childhood obesity within a generation, Michelle Obama launched the “Apps for Healthy Kids” competition. Here’s what it is all about (official description):
Apps for Healthy Kids challenges software developers, game designers, students, and other innovators to develop fun and engaging tools and games that drive children, especially “tweens” (ages 9-12) — directly or through their parents — to eat better and be more physically active.
Prizes are not huge ($40,000), but the point of the initiative is to take part in a noble goal and eventually make a world a better place (at least a bit).
Developers can submit apps for mobile phones and computers from March 10 through June 30. Judging panel and public voting period beings on July 14 and ends a month later. Winner demonstrations and recognition ceremony will be determined in due course…
