There’s a reason you’re seeing more diversity in the Android Market because Google said its application store now has more than 30,000 programs.
This shows some strong growth because Google said there were about 16,000 apps a mere three months ago. The ramp up makes a lot of sense: The Droid has sold more than a million units in 74 days, and we now have Android on every major U.S. carrier. Developers are now taking the platform seriously and it should lead to some innovative stuff.
Of course, the Android Market is still dwarfed by the iPhone’s App Store, which has more than 150,000 programs and much of the media spotlight. But if Apple continues to be restrictive to developers, we may see a larger shift toward that little green robot.
