Merriam-Webster Dictionaries for BlackBerry

Need a powerful dictionary app for your BlackBerry? How about if I told you that Paragon Software Group and Merriam-Webster recently announced the availability of MANY of MW’s publications? Would you want to download them?

A few days ago, Paragon and Merriam-Webster announced the availability of the following publications for BlackBerry:

  • Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate® Dictionary, Eleventh Edition ($29.99) [App World link]
  • Webster’s Third New International Dictionary, Unabridged ($59.99) [App World link]
  • Merriam-Webster’s Medical Dictionary ($29.99) [App World link]
  • Merriam-Webster’s Pocket ($14.99) [App World link]
  • The Merriam-Webster Dictionary ($19.99) [App World link]
  • Merriam-Webster’s English-French Dictionary ($29.99) [App World link]
  • Merriam-Webster’s English-Spanish Dictionary ($29.99) [App World link]

All of the titles have been formatted for BlackBerry, and given new functionality to help aid in fast definition look-up. The dictionaries are ‘light-weight’ too. For example, the Third New International Dictionary weighs in at less than 25MB on your device.

Key features of the new dictionary apps for BlackBerry include:

  • Online Update feature provides over-the-air program updates
  • Dictionary database is possible to install on flash cards
  • Hyperlinks between related articles and directions
  • Search History feature shows the last 20 words looked up
  • Online dictionary catalog provides one-click access to more Merriam-Webster’s dictionaries and possibility to download it directly to your device
  • Multilingual interface is available in English, French, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish languages
  • No Internet connection required: simply download the dictionary once to your device and use it with no further expense incurred

Excellent. Use the App World links above for more information.

Note: These dictionaries offer support for BlackBerry OS 4.2.1 and higher, with the exception of the Storm series. Sorry Stormies, no love here.

One more Note: Free trials are available on all dictionaries.
