Get ready to breathe some new life into the Touch Pro2 because you can now throw Windows Mobile 6.5 on that bad boy.

The software is available now on HTC’s site and it will improve the Sense user interface and improve the social networking integration. There’s no word on what version of Sense will be in there, but let’s hope it’s the latest version. While this is nowhere near as exciting as Windows Phone 7 Series, the update should help you hold on to your phone for a few more months.

I tried it and went back to WinMo 6.1.

Although WinMo 6.5 is an improvement on 6.1, it did have one glaring bug that was a deal breaker for me. The flashing green light when there is unread mail. The option to change that setting is disabled, grayed out.

I contacted HTC support. They are aware of it but have no plans to fix it.

For me, missed calls and voice mail are more important than unread email. Without a way to change the flashing light option, I went back to WinMo 6.1.
