Reading over an androidcommunity.com, the guys there are saying that the nex-gen Puma phone is going to be rocking Android – oh yeah? Nice!

Apparently, during  a launch event for the current device (!), an EVP Marketing commented that Sagem are looking to go with the Google OS in a big way in upcoming devices. The current devices are powered by a Sagem homebrew OS, but to get that feature-enablement, and address the market segments, Android is a good bet.

Of course, it is extremely likely the upcoming device would have a stylistic UI over the top of it, to go with the Puma ‘brand’ that features so heavily on this line of devices – and also feature cross-linking to online services like a shop, and sports news. It’s likely we’ll be targeting 2011 for this device, so don’t get too excited – yet! :-)

I was at the same event and it was more a case of Sagem saying that they will be using Android on most of their new phones. That doesn’t necessarily include the Puma branded phone, which received mixed reviews from the press.

One journalist commented that it was a phone for people who like sport, not those who actually DO sport, adding that it wouldn’t last five minutes in the ‘wild’.

Rather than worry about the OS for the next phone, Puma might want to consider the materials they use to construct the phone itself.

One of the key aspects of the Puma phone is the bespoke user interface and design. Personally, I can’t see how they could merge this with Android and get the same result.
