Some internal Verizon documents are pegging the release date for the BlackBerry Bold 9650 on May 27 (which falls nicely in line with the Tour 9630 end of life) and gives us a full spec sheet to chew on.
Most of the features listed on the spec sheet we already knew about, or at least could have reasonably assumed: 3.2 megapixel camera, 480 x 360 display (the exact size, 2.4″, is new), and 3G by way of 800/1900 Mhz EV-DO. From the other sneak peeks, it’s also pretty certain that the 9650 has Wi-Fi, GPS, 256 MB of application memory, and an optical trackpad replacing the traditional trackball.
Sprint is also likely to pick up the BlackBerry Bold 9650, code-named Essex once upon a time, probably within the same timeframe.

In exploring RIM’s platform, he has learned what enterprises are looking for in mobility as well as what makes the innocuous BlackBerry so appealing to them. Recently Simon’s been covering RIM’s gradual move into an already-crowded consumer market, and the impact of burgeoning challengers, such as the iPhone, as well as long-time leaders, like Nokia, on BlackBerry’s advancement.
