I always love it when good folks out there take today’s technology, and integrate it into their lives in a different way. Take Alan Daly and his iPad. Sure, he loved the ‘magical’ device, but he wanted to take his love to a new level, and display it for all to see in what is surely his favorite room in the house… the kitchen.
As you’ll see in the video above, Alan mounted his iPad within one of his kitchen cabinets. He cut out a portion of the cabinet door, cut a round semi-circle for access to the home button, built bracketing on the back and hooked it up to a sound source… and there you have it. A kitchen cabinet mounted iPad.
Now, before you scoff, go ahead and check out the video. There are lots of applications here, many of which I could see coming in quite handy. Need to pull up that recipe you were talking about? Or maybe you just want to browse the web or listen to your music collection? No worries, just touch the iPad and you’re good to go.
Sure, most folks out there would never cut-up their kitchen cabinetry to do something like this… But I have to give Alan a firm handshake here for what is surely an out-of-the-box application of new technology. I hope he enjoys his iPad for years to come… and if he ever gets tired or it… I hope he has an extra cabinet door laying around somewhere…
What say you? Would you ever even attempt to pull something like this off? Or is this just useless hacking-up of some decent kitchen hardware? Cool or Crazy, you tell me in the comments, ok?
Note: More images are also available in Alan’s Flickr photostream. Check ‘em out.
