HTC has been quite busy making some of the world’s greatest smartphones this year. With lawsuits, and licensing agreements aside, this company has got it going on. From a company that didn’t even brand their own hardware, to a household name, HTC is definitely making some great strides.
From January to April, HTC made about $55.7 billion, almost a 30% increase over the previous period last year. In the month of April alone, the company managed to get about $572 million dollars into their pockets. Whats even better is that those numbers and the chart above doesn’t account for any of the company’s newer devices, like the Droid Incredible and Evo 4G. This just means that we can probably expect a larger number coming from them next time around.
The increased cash flow sure comes at a good time for the company, since Apple filed a lawsuit on HTC for violating 20 of their patents. On top of that, HTC signed a patent agreement with Microsoft. HTC’s Android phones also violated some of Microsoft’s patents, so HTC was basically forced into this to avoid another lawsuit. Since the two companies have a history together, a licensing agreement was more in order.
It’s a good day to be the king of Android, isn’t it? HTC has only lost the Android crown once, and that was at CTIA this year. They lost their crown to Samsung’s Galaxy S. That is, for about an hour before HTC announced the Evo 4G very same conference hall that Samsung used to for its amazing Galaxy S presentation. HTC is one of the world’s best smartphone makers, and they are just starting. There may be obstacles along the way, but it doesn’t look too gloomy for the Taiwanese company, does it?
In the past year, I’ve bought two unlocked smartphones from HTC, so I know I’ve given them at least a grand of my money recently. I expect HTC to keep making phone-gold for the foreseeable future.
What’s your take on HTC as a company?
