After iparkmycar, we bring you a story about another solution for parking in London. This time we’ll talk about ImpulsePay, which is working alongside Park Pay & Go to allow people to pay for parking using nothing but their mobile phones.

ImpulsePay is providing its online Payforit service that works in a similar way to SMS billing:

  • Once parked, motorists will either enter a url into their handsets, or text a number to receive the link sent back to them
  • The car’s registration details and the unique code for the car park will then be entered
  • Once complete the parking fee is then added to the motorist’s mobile bill or taken from their available credit if they are on Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG)
  • A “success page” is then presented to the motorist so they can have confidence that payment has been taken
  • Topping up the time can be done just as easily
  • A call helpline is available for motorists as well

Park Pay & Go on its end offers spaces for mixed usage. For example, parking spaces that are used for businesses during the week can be used by shoppers at the weekend. As far as I’ve understood, they [Park Pay & Go] provide all the parking-related maintenance services and then split the profits with the parking space owner. It’s a neat idea and now that it’s possible to pay by mobile phone, I’ve no doubts many Londoners will use it. ;)
