Rogers FIFA World Cup 2010 app for iPad

In a move to bring streaming World Cup 2010 action to more customers, Rogers has announced a brand new (and very free) 2010 FIFA World Cup app for iPad. Geared for users with an active 3G data connection (sorry WiFi-only owners, no dice!), the new app can be used to watch all 64 games in English… and 56 games broadcast in French.

Although the description of the app in App Store states: ‘Works on Rogers 3G network and/or your WiFi network’, don’t be mislead. Sure, that app will work over your WiFi network as long as you have an active 3G connection on your iPad (authentication of a Rogers 3G subscription is required within the app). Owners of WiFi-only iPad’s will not be able to access the content, everything will be locked up. If you really need streaming World Cup 2010 video on your ‘magical device’, I suggest you look into the iPad Data plans offered by ‘big red‘.

I suppose you can call this one a ‘perk’ for customers that have stepped up to activate their iPad on Rogers. Watching the games on the iPad’s larger display (in comparison to the iPhone) will be a treat for sure. Rogers also tells me that any data consumed by the application will NOT be deducted from your data bucket… So, install, pop it open, and start watching all of the World Cup 2010 action you can handle from home or office.

For more information or to download, hit up the link below. If you do download, install and USE this app on Apple’s wonderful little tablet, I’d love to get your feedback. Did you enjoy watching the games on the iPad? How was the streaming video? Smooth and clear? Any hang-ups? Tell me about it!

The app works pretty well. Crashed maybe 2-3 times during the Chile match this morning, but it launches pretty quick so it wasn't a big deal. There is an annoying 'Are you still watching' message that pops up every so often, i guess as a means to save bandwidth, that you have to click otherwise the video stops.

The video quality is decent (I've only streamed over wifi so far), it isn't as sharp as streaming it on my PC from CBC.ca but it is more convenient since I can always have the screen visible instead of having to move it around on my screen to accommodate my other windows while I'm working.
