Today we are presenting you with another metro themed iPhone app. It’s not a map application, which typically presents map of the metro/subway/tube system, but the one that shows when the next train is due, hence the name – Next Metro.
Also unlike other popular metro apps, this one isn’t focused on a major city — it’s targeting the residents of North East England, covering 60 stations in the Tyne and Wear Metro network. In addition to showing when the next train is arriving, Next Metro uses the location-aware features of the iPhone to tell a person the ten nearest stations to their location, and includes maps showing how to reach them…
Finally, if you’re wondering, the application is the result of a collaboration between Gateshead-based digital agency “Never Odd or Even LLP” (makers of the Ask the Hoff app) and software developer Alex Reid, who initially made the app not to miss the train to work. The authors say Next Metro pays for itself the first time you don’t miss the last Metro home after a night out, because it saves you paying an expensive taxi fare. Couldn’t agree more.
