The Old Course for iPhone

With the British Open going on at St. Andrews right now, this morning I poked around for some ‘Old Course’ goodness to enjoy… and wouldn’t you know it, there’s a new game available for iPhone miraculously titled ‘The Old Course’… and it’s a gem.

Released by the developers at Cobra Mobile, The Old Course lets you play St. Andrews at your pleasure. The game is a top-down scroller, and gives you a birds-eye view of the course. Graphics are rich and very well done, and I can honestly say after having put in a few rounds in the game… it’s a joy to play.

There’s a handy tutorial that steps you through how to aim, select your club, and swing the club… and once you get it, it’s easy. To make a stroke, simply touch in the red area around your ball, pull back, and then flick your finger forward towards your target. The speed and accuracy of your flick will determine the power and direction of your shot. It’s very intuitive, and accurate.

Gameplay modes include the tutorial and practice setting… plus, there’s single and 2 player modes. The 2 player modes can be played on the same device, or over a local network with 2 iPhones.

The game is Plus+ enabled as well. So, you can add your friends, access online leaderboards and a lot more. This makes for a much more enjoyable experience.

For more information or to get started, hit up the download link below. It’ll only cost you a buck, and if you enjoy golf as much as I do, this is a must have.

Note: This game is actually a licensed product from The Home of Golf. So, yes… the folks at St. Andrews put their stamp of approval on this one!
