Korea TelecomOn the heels of the government decision to legalize MVNOs in the country, South Korea’s KT Corp has signed up three companies as its first MVNO clients. The government made MVNOs legal back in March but the change in law comes into effect next month.

According to Joongang Daily’s report, KT has signed up with: Entaz, which will offer a mobile portal service with games, cartoons and electronic books; Free Telecom (not sure what their plans are) and Evergreen Mobile that will offer prepaid voice and data services to foreign visitors and temporary workers.

Commenting on the move, KT’s director of Fast Incubation Center, Gwak Bong-gun, said: “We will help these companies offer differentiated service and find untapped, niche markets so that together we can create a mobile ecosystem.”

Now that MVNOs are legal in South Korea, I would expect more companies to launch their mobile services. Among the usual suspects are usually major supermarket chains and eventually other global MVNO providers such as Virgin Mobile…
