We had heard that the BlackBerry 9800 would be coming to Canada in mid-September, and it looks like Vodafone UK is in the same boat.Vodafone had confirmed that they were going to have the Torch back at launch, but it’s good to have a more specific window to look forward to.
The Torch is RIM’s first slider handset, as well as the inaugural smartphone to run their brand new operating system. The specs are distinctly mid-range: 5 megapixel camera with flash and autofocus, a 3.2″ HVGA touchscreen, 512 MB of memory, 624 MHz processor, an optical trackpad, and a portrait-sliding QWERTY keyboard.
Thinking of picking one up? You can sign up for an e-mail reminder at Vodafone’s landing page, but be sure to take a look at our BlackBerry Torch review, complete with video, screenshots, and stills.

In exploring RIM’s platform, he has learned what enterprises are looking for in mobility as well as what makes the innocuous BlackBerry so appealing to them. Recently Simon’s been covering RIM’s gradual move into an already-crowded consumer market, and the impact of burgeoning challengers, such as the iPhone, as well as long-time leaders, like Nokia, on BlackBerry’s advancement.
With plenty of content under his belt, Simon will be branching off a bit to see what other smartphone manufacturers are working on while still using BlackBerry as a barometer. At IntoMobile, you can count on his posts being even-handed, well-informed and thought-out.
