A North Carolina NGO Urban Ministries of Durham (UMD) — which provides food, shelter and clothing to the city’s homeless — is launching a neat Foursquare initiative to raise awareness around homelessness.
The idea here is to spotlight abandoned warehouses, dumpsters and old construction sites in the downtown area, all of which will be available in the “nearby places” of the Foursquare app.
The McKinney ad agency designed campaign to inspire Foursquare users to check in to these locations and eventually spread awareness about UMD and its mission of homelessness prevention.
By exposing the realities of homelessness around the city, McKinney and UMD hope to motivate younger audiences to volunteer and help the organization in its noble goal.
I like the idea, though I’m a bit skeptical how users will react. We at IntoMobile do advise our readers to volunteer and help the community in any way they can. If you don’t have time for anything else, checking in at these sites in Durham may also help…
