The FCC has been busy at work approving wireless handsets, and the Pantech P8000 has made it through just fine. The smartphone is a candybar style handset with a camera on back. Not terribly shocking, I know, but it seems that it may also be an Android handset compatible with AT&T 3G frequencies. Like most smartphones, the Pantech P8000 will have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities as shown in the FCC listing.
The Bluetooth Special Interest Group lists the P8000 as an Android smartphone, though there isn’t much of a hint of that on the FCC listing. However, it’s not beyond the realm of imagination that this thing is, indeed, an Android handset given its form factor and the fact that we can easily rule out Symbian or Windows Phone 7.
There isn’t a whole lot to be said about the new device, but I’d venture to say that it could just be another run-of-the-mill Pantech smartphone. Sadly, the manufacturer hasn’t really wowed me since the Helio Ocean, and that was over three years ago. Fingers crossed that this packs some wicked cool feature that would distinguish it from the other low to middle end Android handsets.
