Verizon is breaking from the “smartphone is king” trend and bringing a smartphone feature to it feature phone lineup. Verizon is launching version 4 of its Mobile email application which will now offer support for Exchange email and Outlook Calendar sync. The new version will let customers with select feature phones hook up with their corporate email on the same phone they use for personal email. The mail application will support push email for immediate delivery and contact syncing so Exchange contacts can be downloaded to your device. The updated application also includes a new user interface which lets you upload and send email with images contained in your MyPix folder or on your memory card.
The update will be delivered over the air and should be downloaded automatically following a SMS message that will alert you of the availability of this new version. For those that do not subscribe to mobile email, the service is available for $5 per month on a pay as you go data plan. It is also included in any feature phone data plan priced higher than $15. Current phones that support the new Mobile Email 4.0 include the LG Octane, LG Cosmos Touch, Samsung Zeal, Pantech Crux, Samsung Intensity II, Pantech Jest, and the Casion G’zOne Brigade.
