Samsung Captivate for AT&T can now be upgraded to Android 2.2 Froyo

Samsung Galaxy S users, which includes the Captivate for AT&T, have been aching for the Android 2.2 Froyo update. The Epic 4G just got it a short while ago, and now the Captivate is getting it, too. It’s about time the update started rolling out to Galaxy S variant smartphones. It got so bad at one point that a class action lawsuit was filed against both Samsung and T-Mobile for the lack of Froyo on the Vibrant.

So, what can you expect from this particular update? A whole lot of new features.

Here are some of the new options you can expect with the Android 2.2 update:

  • USB Tethering
  • Mobile Hotspot
  • Flash 10.1 Support
  • Enhanced Microsoft Exchange Support (Auto-Discovery, Global Address list look-up, Increased Security Features,  and Exchange Calendars)
  • Speed and Performance Optimizations
  • Ability to Install Apps Directly to SDcard
  • More details in the “Android Froyo 2.2 Information For The Captivate” section on

If you’re looking to grab that update, here’s what you’ll need:

COMPUTER

  • Desktop/Laptop Computer Running 32bit Versions Of Either Microsoft Windows 7, Vista, or XP
  • All Firewall & Anti-Virus Programs Should Be Disabled
  • Administrative Privileges Required To Download & Install Software Including Drivers
  • An Available USB Port On The PC That Supports 2.0 USB
  • Windows Media Runtime 11 (automatically installed by Kies Mini if not present)

PHONE

  • Fully Charged Battery

OTHER

  • USB Data Cable (Included In Retail Box)
  • Any Previous Samsung Kies Software Should Be Removed

Samsung Galaxy S users were beginning to feel anxious when the Nexus S, successor to Google’s Nexus One, was announced with Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Since Samsung was the manufacturer for the phone, most Galaxy S variant owners felt that their current handsets should be updated, too. Of course, it’s a different story when there is a custom UI involved versus the Nexus S’ vanilla Android.

You’ve waited for quite some time now, so if you’re looking to update right now, follow the instructions in the link below!
