A company called Mobile Surroundings has a really neat mobile application for the iPhone and Android smartphones. Called “It Happened Here”, it’s a location-based app that lets users discover and share extraordinary information and historical facts about some of the liveliest cities in the United States. Included in the deal are original summaries and photos for hundreds of fascinating past events that happened in the New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.
For instance, you will know if you’re dining in the restaurant where Marilyn Monroe had a blind date with Joe DiMaggio, parking in the garage where “Deep Throat” whispered Watergate secrets to Washington Post reporters, or walking by the apartment building from the TV Show Friends.
And if you hop on a really cool spot, you can always inform your friends about it by updating your Facebook status right from within the app. It’s that cool. 😉
It Happened Here for iPhone is available for $2.99. It includes access to one city and offers in-app purchasing for other cities. As for the Android version, each city must be purchased separately from the Android Market – search for “it happened here” and take it from there.
