Cry if you’re not in Japan cause we’ve no idea when a comparable handset will be available elsewhere. SoftBank unveiled a new Sharp-made device called AQUOS PHONE 102SH, which is arguably the best Android smartphone in the world. Here are the specs that justify such a bold statement:

  • 4.5-inch glasses-free 3D LCD screen with 720×1280 resolution (329dpi pixel density)
  • 12-megapixel camera with full HD video recording
  • Dual-core TI OMAP4430 processor clocking at 1GHz (could be faster though)
  • Waterproof body (IPX5/7, IP5X)
  • 1GB of RAM, 2.2GB of ROM
  • 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, DLNA
  • Some Japan specific functions like infrared connection and e-wallet
  • Android 2.3 Gingerbread
  • Size: 128×65×9.7mm, weight: 135g

Yes I do want a waterproof phone. It’s only natural to read news when you’re taking a long bath. Books are good too, but sometimes all I want is my RSS fix.

I doubt the AQUOS PHONE 102SH will ever leave the shores of Japan, though keeping the fingers crossed can’t harm. As for our Japanese readers, they will be able to grab this baby at some point in December…

The Sharp 104Sh is much powerful than this, because it has 1.5 GHZ of Dual Core CPU.
