Check out Android Ice Cream Sandwich on Transformer Prime

We know that Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich was built to unify the tablet and smartphone experience but we haven’t really seen it on a tablet … until now. Well, the good folks at NVIDIA have ported it to the Asus Transformer Prime with its quad-core Tegra 3 chip.

It’s only been a few days since Google open sourced Ice Cream Sandwich but NVIDIA said it was very simple to bring this to the world’s first Tegra 3 tablet. This is just an early version, as we’re sure that we’ll see the final port finely optimized.

So, what’s new in Ice Cream Sandwich on tablets? Well, as you can see from the video below, there’s a neat transition effect when you’re swiping between app trays and it looks pretty smooth. You can also group your apps into folders on the home screen and I actually like the way it looks more than the way iOS groups apps in folders. We also get a look at a cool game called Riptide which actually takes advantage of all the four cores for some excellent graphics.

The Tranformer Prime is shaping up to be an excellent tablet and we’ll be anxiously awaiting its arrival in order to see how much of a difference having a quad-core chip can really make.
