Flurry has released some impressive stats for Android and iOS device activations on Christmas day and even more impressive information on the amount of downloaded applications. If you got an Android or iOS device this past Xmas day, you probably contributed to these stats in some way, so read on!
According to the chart, from December 1st to the 20th, the average daily activations for Android and iOS devices was at a cool 1.5 million. On Christmas day, however, those numbers grew a whopping 353% and a total of 6.8 million devices running either of the mobile operating systems were activated.
The specific activations per operating system weren’t released but given that Android activations have recently surpassed 700,000 devices a day, a better picture is painted. With Android’s 700,000 device activations a day, this would leave iOS device activations around 800,000. Plus, with the iPod Touch and iPad the most popular media devices around, this makes a lot of sense. That said, it’s hard to get a better scope on the Christmas day activation numbers.
While the device activation numbers are quite impressive, so too are the amount of applications downloaded on Christmas day. Roughly 242 million applications were downloaded, which translates to a 125% increase from the days preceding it. Again, hard numbers per operating system weren’t revealed, nor free vs paid app download information but it’s hard not to be impressed with numbers of this volume.
If you got a new Android or iOS device this Christmas, how many applications did you find yourself downloading?
