Kindle Fire gets Android Ice Cream Sandwich [Video]

What do you get when you mix the only tablet to successfully compete with the Apple iPad and the only well-known operating system for tablets? A Kindle Fire running Android Ice Cream Sandwich, of course.

That’s what user Jackpotclavin of the XDA developers forum did. He released a pre-alpha of the ROM and it’s been floating around the Internet and, well, the rest is history.

Now wait a minute, don’t get too excited. It won’t take you very long after playing the video to realize that it’s pretty slow and buggy at this point, but that’s probably why it carries a “pre-alpha” label. Then again, the Kindle Fire was slow and buggy up until Amazon’s software update. Hopefully the developers will be able to get this working a bit more smoothly over time to truly leave us in awe.

It’s still a fairly impressive demo though, as Ice Cream Sandwich is in full effect and Amazon’s customizations have been wiped off the Fire and disregarded. That means full access to the Android Market. What a dream.

Alright, enough chitter chatter. I’ll leave you to watch the demo video below and see for yourself.
