Samsung has teamed-up with Visit Britain to launch “The Best of Britain” app that will be available exclusively on Samsung Galaxy devices.
Obviously the idea is use the much-hyped 2012 Olympics to promote Sammy’s products in the UK and to all those visiting the country during the big event. To that end, the application will equip both locals and tourists with a “wide scope of social, cultural, fun and enriching experiences during their stay in the UK.” In other words, you’ll be able to get some location-based information from your smartphone or tablet, including details on nearby restaurants, bars, famous sights and so on; as well as information about the Olympic Torch Relay and Olympic venue destinations.
It’s a nice touch though I don’t understand why Samsung didn’t want to release the app to the general (Android) public. After all, it will bear the company’s logo, promoting the Korean giant’s products even among those with HTC, Motorola, Sony Ericsson and LG smartphones (to name just a few handset makers).
Anyway, if you’re in the “affected group” and also happen to visit/live in London during the Olympics, you may want to search for “best of britain” in the Samsung Apps to get all of the benefits described above…
