Well, the free ride is over for those of you who like to use HTC’s Windows Phone GPS application called ‘Locations’. The app will now carry a price tag for its navigation services. This offering from the Taiwanese based manufacturer was a counter to Nokia’s offering for its Lumia Windows Phones. I guess all good things must come to an end, right?
No one has a clue why HTC is taxing users for its navigation application, but it could suggest that the cost to operate the app began to take its toll. With the new change, once users open the application they will be prompted with an option to buy a license for maps, which enable the most important feature, turn-by-turn navigation. For customers in the United States, the service will have three different tiered plans, which include: $4.99 for 30 days, $19.99 for a year, and $29.99 unlimited. These prices are way more favorable when compared to other spots of the world, as all of North America will cost you $9.99 for the month, $39.99 for 365 days, and $49.99 unlimited. Europe will set you back €49.99 and €39.99 for Eastern Europe.
