China Unicom’s Samsung GT-B9120 is an Android-powered clamshell with two touchscreens

Samsung prepared an interesting smartphone for China Unicom, which is the second-largest mobile operator in the world’s most populous country. Model number GT-B9120 sports a clamshell form factor and, get this – two 3.5-inch WVGA Super AMOLED touchscreens! To be fair, we’ve already seen a similar Samsung product though it wasn’t running Android — Samsung SCH-W689 is powered by Sammy’s own Bada OS, instead. So this is the first such Android smartphone we’ve ever seen!

Pretty cool, especially for folks who can’t live without the classic numeric keypad and would “rather die than use a touchscreen-only interface.”

Aside from the two screens, the GT-B9120 also rocks a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, 1.3-megapixel front-facing one, Qualcomm’s MSM8260 dual-core processor (clocked at 1.2 or 1.5 GHz), HSPA and Wi-Fi connectivity, 1GB of RAM, Bluetooth and 16GB of built-in storage. At the moment, it runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread though I guess it’s fair to say that an Ice Cream Sandwich update will be released at some point in the (near) future.

All said, we hope to see something similar released in the Western hemisphere. Heck, I may be tempted want to try it out. We’ll see whether we can get a review unit…
