Not sure why it took so long, but the good news is that TomTom is (finally) working on an Android app, which will deliver most (if not all) features iPhone users have been enjoying for quite some time.

TomTom co-founder Peter-Frans Fauwels failed to share the exact date, only adding that the Android app will be released “very soon.”

If we can use iPhone app as an example, Android users will get up-to-date 3D maps, awesome voice navigation, speed camera alerts, phone book integration (navigate to your contacts), ability to search and navigate with Facebook (Facebook Places, Events), ability to share your destinations via email, Facebook and Twitter, as well as a vast POI database.

We’ll make sure to keep our eyes wide open and let you know as soon as we hear something new on TomTom’s quest for Android users. Stay tuned in the meantime…
