Sharp starts mass production of 1080p HD 5-inch displays

Sharp announced that it is starting mass-production of 5-inch smartphone displays with full HD resolution of 1920×1080 pixels this month. At 443 ppi (pixels per inch), these will be the highest pixel density displays we’ve ever seen. Period. In comparison, Sony Xperia V and Xperia S have 340 ppi, while the iPhone 5 has just 336 ppi.

Yeah we expect some awesome phones to be unveiled soon, including phablet devices from Chinese Oppo and HTC. Heck, I would bet all other smartphone makers will jump on board, packing modern quad-core CPUs alongside the fancy new display. One thing is certain – the upcoming CES in Las Vegas and then Mobile World Congress in Barcelona will be fun to cover. Stay tuned as we bring you more…
