Archos’ Arnova-branded FamilyPad has been officially announced (PDF press release is here) and it’s one huge tablet sporting a massive 13.3-inch screen. However, it’s also under-specced with that screen showing mediocre resolution (for a such a big tablet) of 1280×800 pixels. Moreover, it has a rather slow single-core processor clocked at 1GHz and we don’t expect it to be the fastest device out there. Then again, I guess Archos’ idea with the FamilyPad isn’t to beat the Nexus 10 to the punch — cause it’s far from that — rather, they want to offer a relatively affordable product a whole family could enjoy, either for watching movies, playing board games, sharing pictures and so on.
Rest of the specs include 1GB of RAM, 8GB of built-in memory, dual 2-megapixel cameras (one on the back and one on the front), Wi-Fi, HDMI out, and a memory card slot, while Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is running the show. Size wise, the FamilyPad measures 262x171x12.5 mm, and has a weight of 1.3 kg. Kinda heavy if you ask me…
When it comes to availability, Archos’ new tablet will become available in the UK sometime in December for 274.99 GBP (about $438). Rest of Europe will most likely follow shortly…
