Today Sony on its blog announced the launch of its new phone security service called My Xperia. Now owners of Sony’s Xperia smartphones will have the ability to track their phone if it becomes lost or stolen. Many options are available to help find your phone through My Xperia, as Sony’s Experience Planner Marcin Zielinski explains on the company’s official blog.

  • Locate your smartphone on a map
  • Sound an alert to get someone’s attention – it’ll also override silent mode and wake the display.
  • Lock the phone to keep info private, and ping a message with contact details or…
  • Erase both internal and external SD card info / data if required

This is only a “phased launch” that’ll start with the Xperia Acro S in Nordic countries, while also hitting other Android 4.0-based 2012 Xperia phones in the weeks ahead. Zielinski claims that eligible users will receive an upgrade through the Update Center app.

It seems that Sony is finally trying to get a hold of its services by soft launching this new My Xperia system, which is the equivalence of Apple’s ‘Find My iPhone’. This is a great idea because it will offer its customers better support when it comes to security. People love feeling like their phone is safe.
