While the Korean giant has its own mobile app/content store, Samsung Apps, it’s still Google Play that most users turn to download stuff. Sure enough, there are certain cases when Samsung is offering some premium game for free, but that’s more of an exception than the rule.
The problem Samsung faces is that its app store doesn’t have enough apps when compared to the default Google Play store. And they want to do something about it.
The new 100% Indie program is launched to spur developers’ interest by offering them 100% of profits for the first 6 months while their app/game is in Samsung Apps. After that period, Samsung will take a 10% cut from sales for the next 6 months, followed by 20% for the following year and 30% after two years. At the end, developers get the “standard” 30-70 deal but only after testing their app(s) in Sammy’s store.
