DROID RAZR, RAZR MAXX Recieve Jelly Bean Update, Loses MOTO Bloatware

Owners of the DROID RAZR and RAZR MAXX are in for the Jelly Bean treatment today, via a new update which adds the functionality of Jelly Bean while gutting most of Motorola and Version’s infamous bloatware. The update has not begun OTA deployment yet, but can be installed manually. We’re still not sure when it will be rolling out OTA, but keep your eyes peeled for this device-changing update.

The update, build number 98.72.16, changes the devices almost entirely. Chrome is now the stock browser, and enhanced voice search and Google Now provide a new user experience. The camera is now greatly improved, and contact syncing is now a little easier.

Removing the normal Motorola and Verizon bloatware is not typical of either of the companies, but makes sense in the long run, increasing the longevity of the devices of the software side. Motorola has removed MotoActv, MotoPrint, Alarm, and Timer, and have also rid the units of My Gallery and My Music. Google Music and Gallery have stepped in to replace those apps, and the units have been stripped of MotoCast, which now functions as a standalone app.

So if you’re an owner of the DROID RAZR or RAZR MAXX, keep your eyes out for this game changing update.
