Latest HTC EVO 4G Update Causing Bricked Devices?

Earlier today, many HTC EVO 4G users got a little excited about an over-the-air update that was released for their devices. The software update was supposed to fix a few bugs and a Wi-Fi issue, but not much else. Many were hoping there would be a little something in there to help battery life a little. Well, what should have been a standard and mostly uneventful update turned out to be a nightmare for some users.

EVO owners commented in our last post that the update fixed Wi-Fi issues, and some updates only took ten minutes at most. However, other not-so-lucky users had this to say:

This update completely killed my phone. Halfway through the install, the phone went blank and it won’t respond to anything now. I brought it to a Sprint store and they confirmed it’s DEAD.

Has anyone else been having similar issues? It appears that it has been happening to more and more EVO 4G owners and reports of bricked devices are beginning to spread across the web. If your smartphone was killed by this update, please let us know in the comments and describe exactly what happened. We’ll try to get in touch with Sprint and see what their stance is and what you should do if your device is affected.
